Eritrea joined the World Bank in 1994. Since then, World Bank assistance has provided funding for 15 projects that have impacted many sectors. Since the war with Ethiopia ended in 2000, the Bank has lead a multi-donor lending program to help Eritrea rebuild its physical and social infrastructure, help displaced and drought-affected people resume economic activities and rebuild their lives, and assist the government to procure essential imports through balance of payments support.
