A typical day for Raghee Horner starts at 4:30am, a quick look at the markets and she’s off to squeeze in a quick 45 minutes of weight training and a cup of coffee. The Forex market never sleeps and at 4:30am the U.K. market has been trading for about an hour… Raghee was born in Virginia and grew up in Vermont. She studied Law and English at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, which is about 30 minutes from the town of Coral Springs, where she has lived now for over twenty years. It was during her years at FAU that Raghee really got into trading. At age 17 Raghee began market timing mutual funds and trading shares of IBM. She never though it would be her career until she met a fellow SCUBA diver when she owned and operated her first business, a scuba diving excursion company. This student traded bonds and introduced Raghee to the world of technical analysis and charting to and from dive sites. After graduating college, Raghee sold her business and began trading full-time; first futures and stocks, then Forex. “I really didn’t see myself working in a corporate environment even though my first goal was to become an attorney. Once I began trading, I wanted to see how far I could take it…how good I could be.” “I didn’t plan on becoming a teacher but as I worked from home trading, friends, family, and neighbors would eventually ask what I was up to.” And that’s where it started. Raghee’s popularity grew with the Internet, “I have students I chat with from Canada, the Bahamas, Africa, Germany, the U.K., India, Australia, Brazil…last time I checked I had students from everywhere but the north and south pole! It’s amazing to have such an international community and with the Forex we speak the same language: currencies.” So what makes her such an effective trader and teacher? “I believe it’s the fact that I teach charting basics and my step-by-step plan that anyone can follow.” And she’s learned from experience. “Sure, I spent some time trying to become a ‘sophisticated trader’ with fancy talk and tools, and that got me nowhere. I don’t want to ‘impress’ my students with my experience or knowledge, I’d rather spend time impressing upon them that trading is a process of continual education.” “I’ve seen traders come and go, I want my student to understand that this is a profession like any other.” What you are about to learn in this book is exactly what Raghee does, day after day, to achieve her returns. What is Forex? Forex, or Foreign Exchange, is the simultaneous exchange of one country’s currency for that of another. FXCM provides foreign exchange for the purpose of investor speculation. The investor wishes to purchase or sell one currency for another with the hope of making a profit when the value of the currencies changes in favor of the investor, whether from market news or events that take place in the world. This market of exchange has more daily volume, both buyers and sellers, than any other in the world...
