Alliance Bank was founded on 19 January 2001 following the successful merger of Multi-Purpose Bank Berhad, International Bank Malaysia Berhad, Sabah Bank Berhad, and Sabah Finance Berhad. The merged bank brings with it more than four decades of proud history contributing to the financial community in Malaysia with its innovative and entrepreneurial business spirit. Its proud history can be traced back to 1958 when Banque Indosuez (originally know as Banque de L'Indochine) first commenced operations in Malaysia. In 1982, the Malaysian French Bank Berhad was incorporated following the French Government's nationalisation of Banque Indosuez and also the restructuring of the Bank's business in Malaysia to comply with the local banking regulations. In 1996, it assumed the name Multi-Purpose Bank Berhad. In 2000, Multi-Purpose Bank Berhad was named one of the ten anchor banks in the consolidation exercise of Malaysian financial institutions. It officially commenced operations as Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad on 19 January 2001 and continued to grow from strength to strength by observing the basic tenets of prudent financial management, an honourable approach to doing business and an unwavering innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. Alliance Bank was awarded Superbrand status by the Malaysian Superbrands Council in 2002 having scored high points for criteria such as goodwill, customer loyalty and overall market acceptance in Malaysia. On 1 August 2004, Alliance Bank took over the entire finance company business of its wholly owned subsidiary, Alliance Finance Berhad to operate as a new entity to carry on the businesses of both the commercial bank and the finance company. Today, Alliance Bank employs over 3,000 people and has 77 branches nationwide.
