When decree No. 2804 was issued on 17.12.1969 , those tasks acquired more clarity and became better defined in terms of specialization, highlighting as it does the basic and fundamental role of the Ministry in the following domains: Taking part in the drawing out of the state's economic policy. Supervising the works of the General Establishment for Cotton Ginning and Marketing, the activities of the General Organization of Tobacco, the General Organization of Free Zones, and the General Establishment for the Damascus International Fair. Looking after investment issues, encouraging, promoting and developing investment regulations. Completing all procedures of importation and exportation for the public, private and mixed sectors. Supervising the organization of exhibitions locally and abroad. Establishing trade centers and commercial representation offices that promote Syrian products in external markets.
