The Student Loans Company (SLC) has a central role in the provision of the Government s student support schemes. We are charged with organising the payment, maintenance and collection of government student loans which are designed to help students meet their living costs while at university or college. The company is a non-departmental public body employing over 1000 people at our two Glasgow sites, one in the city centre and at the other at Hillington near Glasgow Airport. The departmental structure is designed to administer student support efficiently, at minimum cost to the UK taxpayer but we also aim to provide a friendly, sympathetic, quality service to our borrowers and partners and have assembled a talented customer care team to service our ever-increasing customer base. In addition to the core function of administering student loans and loan repayments, SLC also administers a range of supporting functions, which include the disbursement of the government s public contribution to tuition fees and the maintenance of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) course database. And recently we have started to administer Education Maintenance Allowances for school students from Northern Ireland and Wales. We engage in all our duties with enthusiasm, efficiency and energy.
