Eritrea joined the World Bank in 1994. Since then, World Bank assistance has provided funding for 15 projects that have impacted many sectors. Since the war with Ethiopia ended in 2000, the Bank has lead a multi-donor lending program to help Eritrea rebuild its physical and social infrastructure, help displaced and drought-affected people resume economic activities and rebuild their lives, and assist the government to procure essential imports through balance of payments support. Current World-Bank supported projects include: Eritrea Education Sector Investment Project: a US$45 million project which seeks a more equitable, and increased enrollment in basic education and an enhanced quality in basic and secondary education. Eritrea: Emergency Reconstruction Supplemental Project: a US$15 million Supplemental Grant with the objective to mitigate the effects of drought and fulfill the Emergency Reconstruction Project objectives of long term reconstruction and economic recovery. Emergency Demobilization & Reintegration: a US$60 million project which seeks to demobilize and reintegrate the majority of the soldiers under arms over a 2-year period, and provide support for economic and social integration for war victims.
