Guinea joined the World Bank in 1963. Since then, World Bank support has focused on helping the country reduce poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth with 66 operations. As of January 2005, there were 12 active projects including: Multi-Sectoral AIDS Project (MAP): a US$20.3 million project which seeks to limit and reverse the trend of the epidemic by preventing new infections. Supplemental Third Water Supply and Sanitation: a US$25 million operation with the goal to improve sanitary conditions by increasing access to sewer services and reduce pollution of the marine ecosystem. Education for All Project: a US$70 million which aims to support the governments program objective to ensure equitable access to a high-quality education system, relevant to the communities in Guinea, and to their economic well-being. Capacity Building for Service Delivery Project: a US$19 million project which seeks to increase the effectiveness of service delivery in primary education, basic health, rural development, and paralegal services.
