The World Bank is currently working to assist nine Pacific Island member states: Fiji, Micronesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Palau, the Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu. In total, these countries have received 38 loans and credits from the World Bank since 1971. These small and remote island states face many similar development challenges, including relatively limited natural resources, economic and environmental vulnerability, and limited access to global markets. Most of these countries have undertaken measures addressing these challenges, such as adopting economic reform programs, promoting the private sector to foster economic development, and expanding access to health care, education services, and training programs. Kiribati Adaptation Program. Kiribati will receive an additional $1.5 million from Australia to help tackle the impact of climate change.
