The Council for Affordable Health Insurance (CAHI) is a research and advocacy association of insurance carriers active in the individual, small group, HSA and senior markets. CAHI’s membership includes insurance companies, small businesses, providers, nonprofit associations, actuaries, insurance brokers and individuals. Since 1992, CAHI has been an active advocate for market-oriented solutions to the problems in America’s health care system. What We Do: One of the challenges that we as a nation face is the development of a health care system that enables all citizens to have access to affordable, quality health care. Through peer-reviewed research and advocacy efforts in the states and Washington, D.C., CAHI educates lawmakers and regulators about the results, positive or negative, of health care reform measures. CAHI’s board of directors leads the organization’s activities and consists of senior executives with vast insurance and health care policy experience. The board members develop policy positions, review proposed legislation, and testify before Congress and state legislative committees. Policy analysts and actuaries research the impact of legislation and produce in-depth reports and concise two-page Issues & Answers articles in order to support CAHI’s education and communication efforts. CAHI has also developed an extensive network of grassroots organizations with whom it works to carry forward its message to the media and to lawmakers. For more information on CAHI’s policy issues and advocacy efforts, please visit the Issues & Advocacy section of our website. Since our formation in 1992, The Council for Affordable Health Insurance (CAHI) has become one of the most influential and respected health care organizations in the country. Because our message is not developed simply to fit the current political climate, we are consistently recognized as the voice for free market health care reform.
CAHI’s diverse membership includes corporate members representing the small group, individual, HSA and senior insurance markets, as well as financial institutions, actuaries, insurance brokers, e-commerce companies, small businesses and other associations. Our strategies, priorities and agendas are forged by members of our association, therefore we are uniquely able to represent the members’ needs.
