Mortgages: A mortgage is a method of using property as security for the payment of a debt. Technically the term mortgage (from Law French, lit. "dead pledge") refers to the legal device used in securing the property, but it is also commonly used to refer to the debt secured by the mortgage. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans secured on real estate rather than other property (such as ships) and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals or businesses can purchase residential or commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. In many countries it is normal for home purchase to be funded by a mortgage. In countries where the demand for home ownership is highest, strong domestic markets have developed; notably in Great Britain, Spain and the United States. Home Equity Loan: A home equity loan is a type of loan in which the borrower uses the equity in his home as collateral. These loans are sometimes useful for families to help finance major home repairs, medical bills or college educations. The borrower receives a lump sum at the time of the closing and cannot borrow further. It is possible to borrow up to 100% of the assessed value of the home, less any liens. These fixed rate loans can be amortized up to 15 years with a 3, 5, or 7-year balloon payment. When the balloon balance is due, the borrower can pay off the balance or refinance. Credit Report: Credit history or credit report is a record of an individuals or companys past borrowing and repaying, including information about late payments and bankruptcy. The term "credit reputation" can either be used synonymous to credit history or to credit score. When you fill out an application for credit from a bank, store or credit card company, your information is forwarded to a credit bureau, along with constant updates on the status of your credit accounts, address or any other changes you may have made since the last time you applied for any credit.
