Since 2003, the bank is definitely moving ahead under the ING banner and able to fully capitalise on its integration within a leading global financial institution. By the end of 2004, the bank has reorganised its commercial network into two business lines, Retail & private banking on the one hand, and Wholesale banking on the other, which report functionally to the equivalent business lines at ING Group. In Belgium, nine Retail & private banking regions and seven Wholesale banking regions have replaced the former local head offices. This reform will considerably shorten the decision-making process, and this increased efficiency will ultimately benefit the customer. Operating income in 2004 was boosted by steady interest income and substantial growth in non-interest income. This was also backed by a contained rise in general administrative expenses and a considerable drop in depreciation, write-downs and provisions. The combination of these items enabled the bank to have its best-ever financial year.
